Bergville
General Information
Situated at the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains is the pretty little town of Bergville. As the gateway to the Northern Drakensberg on Route 74 Bergville sits perfectly between Johannesburg and Durban.
Dating back to approximately 1897 Bergville has its historical significance in the Ango-Boer War, with many features in and around the town to showcase the event. Bergville is a peaceful town ideal for those wishing to escape city life. The only surviving British blockhouse in KwaZulu Natal is situated within the grounds of the local court house as a monument and museum.
Essentially an agricultural town, Bergville is the main agricultural hub of the area and still holds local cattle sales on the third Friday of every month. With the Tugela River flowing by and the dramatic Drakensberg mountain in the distance, the scenes around Bergville are definitely a photographers dream come true!
